Murder, Mayhem part 2
It was 10 in the night, Inspector Kadam was sitting quietly in his office. He was the newest recruit in the police force of Delhi. An average-looking guy with an average intelligence. The Vinod Nagar police station was located near the highway where the construction of the new metro was going on. Very few crimes happened in the past in that area, so most of the officials were off to home for a nice slumber for the summer could be much worse in Delhi. Being new he did not mind it at all. He thought it as a challenge to deal with new emerging crisis. When he got a call from the company in Noida in the morning, he noted the address and made a mental note of visiting that place later. Few bike riders and an accident on the highway kept him busy all the day. “I’ll go tomorrow and check the office brat!” he said. His table was a mess. Everything was scattered, books, files, his wallet, phones, car keys and a shabby towel were placed on his chair which gave the impression that a coffee was spilled just now. Amidst everything, including the stinking smell of the toilet, his eyes were fixed on his wallet. The wallet had the picture of his girlfriend, Sonia, who was Delhi university graduate and was working for a multinational firm in Noida.
Just then the telephone rang
“Hello, ki hai ji?” the police officer asked.
“Sir, I am Vishal talking from West Vinod Nagar, My flat was robbed... Before he could complete his sentence he was cut in the middle by the reporting officer.
“Aye angrezz ki aulad, Hindi na aawe hai ke?” said the police officer
“Aati hai sir!” said Vishal
“Ab bol ki hoya hai”
“Sir, mai west Vinod Nagar se bol raha hun aur mere ghar me chori hui hai”
“Chori ho gayi hai. Hmm! to aisa bolo naa, Chal aate hain thodi der me. Apna address bata de bas”
After writing the address the policemen then turned to officer Kadam
“Sir, Vinod Nagar me chori ho gayi hai, kisi Vishal naam ke launde ne call kiya hai abhi”
The name gave a shock to Kadam. He was quick in his response, he rolled out a parchment and showed this to his colleague. After seeing the parchment, the constable nodded his head.
“ Is it the address?” Kadam asked
“Saab, Yahi to hai A-26 gali no 6, Vinod Nagar, ab kya”
“Oye, Pandey ji ye dekho gajab ho gaya, aaj sham ko hame yahin jana tha, dekho bulawa bhi aa gaya, chaliye gaddi nikal lijye”
Before he could move out there was another phone call.
“Pandey ji, jara dekhiye ab kise aafat aayi hai” shouted Kadam with his eyes still fixed on Sonia.
“Hello, Vinod Nagar police Station, ki ho Gaya”
“Murder, goliyan Chal rahin hain mere Ghar me pas me”
“Ji Apna address bata de, hum abhi aate hain!” said the constable.
“A-26” as soon as he heard that he slammed the receiver down and moved out at a great pace.
“Saab, wahan goliyan Chal rahin hai” he said to Kadam.
Kadam was petrified. He had never been in a situation like this. He went out in the open held his hand high and sighed. For a moment, he thought was this his mistake? If he could have visited that place earlier than he could have saved one or two lives.
By that time, Pandey ji was out with the vehicle. Kadam raced towards the vehicle. Outside the police station was a bike rider all in black, it seemed as if he was watching them. As soon as Pandey put his foot on the accelerator and reached near the crossing they heard a loud noise of a car slamming into another. The driver slammed his car on a the crossing itself. Kadam asked to pull the vehicle near the car and jumped to have a look of the incident. The driver was drunk and smelled of alcohol.
“Sir, you should not drive like that, it could have killed you”
“Yes, yes it will kill me one day”
Kadam asked one of his constables to take him to the police station where he could wait until he returned from the crime scene.
So, leaving one of his men behind Kadam asked Pandey to move the car and asked the driver to park the car near the bus stop and asked him to accompany him constable to the police station.
